Commonwealth Games Gold winner the Royal Marine
It was a great night for the Senior Service in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with Marine Chris Sherrington picking up the gold medal in the heavyweight judo event. To cap off a great night Lt Cdr Mark Shaw picked up the bronze in the same event.
There was confusion when Sherrington’s score initially was initially given to his opponent Ruan Snyman of South Africa, but he was in no doubt of his victory letting out a loud cheer as a section of Royal Marines in the crowd shouted “go Royals”.
After collecting his gold he stepped off the podium and reached into his jacket to get his green lid bringing more cheers from an appreciative crowd. As one of the most popular competitors on the circuit he was mobbed by fans for autographs and photographs.
When asked about the fight in typically understated style he just said “I think I might feel that in the morning”
